I notice that, just like on youtube and facebook and a lot of other internet sites, there's a LOT of Shadow Man fans here.

I was wondering if any of the Shadow Man fans on this site like him for any reason *besides* him being a ninja.

Almost as many as Bass fans...

I like Shadow Man because he is a ninja, and that automatically makes him awesome.

And also, he's got the Metal Blade equivalent in 3. Also, that mysterious backstory of his. I mean, what other robot gets found in mysterious temples? I guess the Stardroids, but-And I figured out his backstory.

EDIT: You just can't resist being first.

.....automatically? o.O

.....following that extremely strange logic, that makes Magna Centipede in X2 awesome, too [he's not]. :P

[I let you [and Tails] have your week in the sun. My turn. :P]

@ThatGuyNamedMikey : Never really thought Magna Centipede a ninja. Besides the fact he did a whole Naruto style teleporting move.

Even then, Magna Centipede is awesome.

"Magna Centipede is awesome"?

No, Mega Man X is awesome. Spark Mandrill is awesome. Toxic Seahorse is awesome. Shadow Devil is awesome.

Besides him barely resembling a ninja, it'll have to be logically explained to me as to how someone as wimpy to fight as Magna Centipede [or Shadow Man, for that matter] can be awesome.

.....I mean, Overdrive Ostrich is harder to buster than Magna Centipede.

To be honest, I do like Shadow Man to an extent, but NOWHERE near a much as other people do. To me, he is one of the more boring robot masters from Mega Man 3 (fight and stage music aside). However, the only reason I really tolerate Shadow Man is due to his role in the Mega/Giga Mix, especially during the Star Droids Story. He is probably at 4th for favorite in that game, with Snake, Hard, and Gemini outranking him, in that order.

@ThatGuyNamedMikey : Well when you confidently list so many characters as "awesome", I have to speak up :P .

Mega Man X - He is undebatably my favorite Mega Man (I haven't played MMZero, ZX, or Legends so I can't speak for those). He's quite solemn and has a strong sense of justice, and throughout the series, he seeks to discover what "justice" and "the right thing to do" really are. SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO CARE ABOUT THE PLOT OF X5 (which you probably already know or don't care but wuddevr): That's why I wish the series had ended at X5 with the ending of Zero "discovering his true self" and X putting the fate of the world over his friend's life. It's a great answer to X's question of when this war will end and what he'll need to sacrifice. I know there are other Megamen that are like that, but MMX always rubbed me in a darker way than the other series and I personally like that.

Spark Mandrill - I suppose he's OKAY, but in the face of the other MMX1 mavericks, he's unimpressive imo. Also, I personally find his theme to be underwhelming compared to, say, Flame Mammoth and Storm Eagle. Overall, however, I don't have a problem with him; I just don't feel the need to give him any particular praise.

Toxic Seahorse - Wat. His stage theme is awesome, but he himself is kinda....strange, even as far as mavericks go. At the beginning of (and throughout) your fight with him, he keeps bobbing his head and tail up and down like a chicken, and his best ability is to melt....-_-.

Shadow Devil - The first time I heard Shadow Devil's theme, I thought to myself, "No....NO WAY!!" As the blobs of dark, malicious evil came flying towards me, the most intense, nightmarish fight of my MMX life commenced. Shadow Devil FTW.

Hilariously enough, I just came here to comment on Shadow Man. Shadow Man is 100% ninja: the design, the weapon, the fight, heck even his theme just screams ninja. I'm not sure what else you could possibly like about him. What do you like about Shadow Man, Mike? Or do you even like him?

I suppose I should've clarified that I hate the little jumping jack. There's way better and tougher RM's that I feel as though make Shadow Man look stupid: Ice Man, Elec Man, Charge Man, Slash Man, Search Man, Clown Man and Grenade Man just for starters [and if you don't think that Elec Man is tough, beat him with just the buster. Harder than it sounds, I promise you.]

I especially hate Shadow Man's stage theme, as I feel that it's almost as overrated as Snake Man's theme, which is almost as overrated as the MM2 Wily Castle 1 theme.

Whenever I ask someone why they like Shadow Man, tough, I get the same stock answer; "'cause he's a ninja". No one ever names any other reasons, at least, not to me. :P

Also, Doc, you should try fighting Spark Mandrill with just uncharged Buster Shots. I've still yet to beat him this way. :P

@ThatGuyNamedMikey : I'll admit that Spark Mandrill can be difficult, especially compared to the other MMX1 mavericks. Funny enough, I started with him when I first played MMX years ago. Safe to say I got rekt. However, I think I have beat him with buster-only, but I'm unsure. I'll have to try again :D .

You don't think Shadow Man is tough? The biggest problem with him is his unpredictability. If you don't jump as soon as he slides, he just trucks you before you can bat an eye. On the other hand, if you jump when he throws his blades, you don't have enough time to land and jump again to avoid the star. If you try to go under him, you can get unlucky and go under him when he makes a short hop, making you take contact damage. I honestly find it stupid that you just have to be lucky in order to beat him w/o his weakness.

There's a video about how to beat Elec Man REALLY easily, but it's basically exploiting a glitch in his AI. Other than that, Elec Man is a serious pain.

@TheDoc : The problem with Shadow Man, though, is that he doesn't do enough damage to be anything more than annoying in the difficulty department. Touching him or his Shadow Blades only does 4 damage, if I recall correctly, and his slide only does 6, I think. If it weren't for the fact that bustering him only does 1 damage to him instead of 2, he'd just be another Fire Man [if you meet Fire at full health, and keep rapid-firing the Buster as quickly as you can, you'll almost always kill him before he kills you].

The only possible ways that Shadow Man can kill you is by your having a bad reaction time, or by jumping left when you should've jumped right [or vice versa].

Charge Man, in my experience, is a better Shadow Man than Shadow Man is, seeing as how he's much taller, a little faster and very much more efficient at giving contact damage.

.....which brings me back to the point of the thread: what's there to like about Shadow Man besides him being a ninja, again? x)

@ThatGuyNamedMikey : I find Charge Man to be easier than Shadow Man. He's more predictable and just easier for me to dodge overall. His hardest move is when he briefly charges you after following you across the room, but even that can be anticipated and dodged. His coal rain and long charges are cake. Sure, he's taller, but you can get around him a lot easier than Shadow Man. Btw, I just checked; Charge Man does 5 contact damage.

Unlike Charge Man, Shadow Man never gives you any breathing room and is IMPOSSIBLE to anticipate, the biggest difference being that he doesn't telegraph his slides like Charge Man does, and unfortunately his slides shoot all the way across the room and then bounce right back up.

Now I'm not saying this to defend Shadow Man; I think the fact that his movements are utterly random is stupid considering Classic Mega Man has always been about looking for patterns that aren't random, but aren't easy to master. I'm just saying that he is really difficult to the point of being unfair, and that could be a reason to like him: because he's a challenge with just a buster.
