Alright, you guys want me to give this a spin? I'll give this a spin. First, I'll have to set a few boundaries, though:
1. This will be done in the traditional paragraph format (Meaning all words, none of that picture stuff). Therefore, I will be expecting a certain level of detail in your responses. Since I think I'm the only veteran here, I'll be setting the bar fairly low, but I want to see effort.
2. YOU MUST CREATE YOUR OWN CHARACTER. Canon Mega Man characters will be rejected on sight, and characters named after yourself, almost certainly so, on the grounds that self-insert characters are boring. Before you join, you will submit a Bio for your character, providing basic information such as name and creator (If relevant), as well as a brief summary of the character's appearance, a rough take on their personality, and, perhaps most importantly of all, some form of backstory. I reserve the right to reject any character Bio from joining, provided that I give sufficient reasoning and advice on improving the character.
3. Although this RP is primarily to test your ability to write in detail and play fairly in a conventional (If structureless) role-playing environment, I will be expecting consistent characterization from all players. In a way, I'll be making this easier for you, since you'll be working with a personality that you established yourself.
4. Have fun...or else! No, seriously, I didn't come here to be the Murderer of Fun; I'll be trying to have fun with it too! So have fun with it.
What's that? "Enough with the rules, Chaos, what's this RP actually about?"
I'm glad you asked. I was just getting to that.
---
The year 20XX. The city of Monstropolis was enjoying a sigh of relief. Dr. Wily was safely behind bars once again, thanks to the heroic actions of none other than Mega Man. This particular day was not a day of celebration, but of peace—all quiet, save for the dullish hum of life going on in the city. Or, at least, it was quiet, until a sounding trumpet in the distance played a king's herald.

Or, rather, the King's herald. Sure enough, every television in Monstropolis displayed King's face—headdress, war paint, and benevolent smile. "Good morning, Monstropolis," the once-deposed monarch beamed through the camera signal.

Initially, the citizens looked up at the monitor in fear. King had not been seen since his exodus a few years back; all had thought him dead until now. He took note of this immediately, and tried to relax, slipping off his helm to reveal tufts of radiant blue hair. "Peace be upon you, citizens! I know this is a time of peace for Monstropolis; I do not approach in order to wage war once again. Oh, rest assured, there will be conflict, but for the sake of those who would partake in it!" Clearing his throat, King began a somewhat lengthy explanation.

"I still believe in a world where man and metal man can live in peace, if not in unity. But as long as Robots will fight other Robots to preserve that peace, I think it only fair that there should be an entire league of heroes, not just those who made me see when I had been made blind by the hands of the madman! If we all prepare ourselves, we can uphold this peace, and make the world a better place to live in! Am I not correct?" A few citizens nodded quietly; others clapped.

"Indeed I am! And in my journeys across this world, I have found other Robots who also thought I was correct. We have formed an alliance and sharpened our bodies and minds, and today, we stand before you to offer you a chance to do the same—in a game we call the King's Gambit Challenge!"

"The rules are simple: four chosen Robots will arrive on the scene and battle through a gauntlet of my companions. The battles are for training purposes, so any Robot who is incapacitated will be repaired and sent home. Those who claim victory against the entire gauntlet will leave not only with honor, title, and the ability to protect themselves and theirs, but they will also earn access to our humble armory."

"So! To all Robots out there who hear my call, to all that wish to uphold peace, to all who wish to take this King's Gambit Challenge...decide amongst yourselves who will go first, and of the four chosen, gird yourselves for combat! And, creators...please try to make arrangements for the Robot to take part in this; if they are successful, they will return to you more useful than they were before."

"Meet us at my old Tower on the outskirts of town. You'll find it refurbished, with us waiting there for you." And, as suddenly as King's transmission had appeared, it vanished, and the screens returned to their typical displays.

The challenge was set. The question was...who would rise to the challenge?

(You cannot submit any more bios. MegaBossMan, Spinstrike, Btman, Tobyjoey, and I are the only people allowed to contribute to the story.)

"Interesting....This King's challenge sounds pretty fun, and I don't have anything to do! Well, wonder where I enter in this thing? If this King deserves a herald, he'll get the damn best herald I can be! Hehehehe!"

Entry Form
Name: Insanity Man
Designation: DHN:043(Dr. Headly Number)
Type: Cutter
Design: A purple-ish robot with a sly smile on his face and a glimmer of insanity in his eyes. He has a fairly large body with a shell on his back, only being outsized by robots like Guts Man. He has adjustable hands that he changes by switching it by using some sort of tool that he keeps with him at all times. When scared or startled, he will roll into an armadillo type shell, but it isn't very effective besides for rolling away quickly or providing some defense.

Although not being originally dubbed this name, Insanity Man was a failed Robot Master, made some time after "Proto Man"'s attack of the world and Dr. Light. After having a problem with his electrical brain, he was cast out and left to wander the world. After finding Dr. Wily's castle, he likes to stick around, although Wily never uses him and actually doesn't want him there, giving him repressed feelings of loneliness. He has the Range Slash, an attack that slashes all enemies around his location, although the damage dealt is fairly weak. If electrically-charged, it can home in to any robot that has a metal alloy, including himself. Even though he may seem innocent at times, he'll soon go into a chaotic craze of destruction, enjoying the pains he causes in this mode. He is extremely fast with a great offense, but he can't take a hit very well. He'll sometimes slow down so he can taunt the opponent, but this could end up being a wrong move in the field of battle......

Accepted!

"If the information I have received is correct, then the odds of me doing well are 307 to 11. This should be over faster than a game of Blackjack when I'm dealing."

Entering the competition we have... Gamble Man! We are not sure who his creator is, but it is rumored it was the same person who submitted
Flame Man to the 1st Annual Robot Tournament.Gamble Man was originally made for calculating statistics, but it is no secret that he spends time in the nearest casino, enjoying using his calculations to beat the system. What he does with all that zenny is not known. What is known is that his creator modified him so he could compete in these events. Gamble Man is fickle in his decision making, but when he has made one, he pursues it. He can get hard to get close to, but once you do, it is hard not to like him. Gamble Man has a bit of a dark sense of humor and can be cocky.

Good Point: Calculating
Bad Point: Fickle
Likes: Cutting the deck
Dislikes: Luck based decisions
Abilities: He can make decisions quickly, calculate odds, and can move swiftly.
Weaknesses: He does not account for luck, and he is not very creative.
Weaponry: He is equipped with a Mega Buster and can execute attacks based off of numbers and gambling.
Type: Shadow
Design: An orange robot with a short but sturdy stature, similar to the likes of Heat Man and Dust Man. He has black stripes on him, and a few red decorations. His right hand is a buster, while his left is... well, a hand.

I *clears throat* borrowed MegaBossMan's Entry Form style...
pleasedon'thurtmeIdidn'tseeanythingthatIcoulddobesidesusingMegaBossMan'sentryform

[Entry Form]
Name: Blaze Man
Designation: DRN-001 (Dr. Retro Number)
Type: Flame
Design: Similar to Blaziken from the Pokemon series; except more robot-like and has flashy Erase-Cross hair (that's red).

Good Point: Has endurance
Bad Point: Cocky/Annoying/Pyromaniac
Likes: Fire
Dislikes: Water/Ice

Abilities:
Shoots fireballs from his hands
Has a flame breath
Martial arts + fire
Jumps, then crashes onto the opponents with flames
Can summon walking ovens that shoot flames
Can summon meteors from the sky
Has worse breath than Wario

Bio:
The first of Retro's line of master's, Blaze man can shoot flames hotter than the sun's surface (at 21,000 degrees Fahrenheit). He (like all of Retro's bots) is meant specifically for battle, and loves to burn everything in sight. However, being a fire master, is weak to water and ice attacks, which will weaken his fiery powers by 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit every time he's hit by one. However, if there's nothing between you and Blaze Man, then you may as well jump into the sun to escape punishment.

(Woah crumbs, three bios already? Let's see what we've got here.

Regarding MegaBossMan: Neato. I like this guy's flavor; madmen are normally interesting characters to fight as and against. As I expressed once before, Range Claw seems like it has the potential to be very broken, so I'll be keeping a close eye on this guy, but I like where he's going—especially with the interchangeable fists and the fact he gets supercharged with lightning a la Spring-Man. Accepted.

Regarding Tobyjoey: Ah ha, nice to see Gamble-Man again! I see he's been retooled a bit for this piece, becoming a Cossack bot instead of a Wily bot. A little bizarre, though...looking at the patterns of his creations, Cossack's Robots are normally for the purpose of research. What does Gamble-Man research? Statistics? Ha ha, that's a...that's a little joke. Kind of a minor nitpick, though—could easily be remedied by picking some miscellaneous scientist out of the hat. Accepted.

Regarding Retro Pikachu: Nah, using someone else's Bio format was totally acceptable. I expect it to get fairly same-y. Part of the points in Bios in professional atmospheres is that they are consistent. But I digress! Guy seems a little complicated for a Robot Master, don't you think? On top of that, he's not really trying to disguise the fact that he's just Blaziken given a metallic sheen. Perhaps if it were tweaked and toned down in some ways, I could see it working, but as it is, it's neither original nor a Mega Man Classic Robot. Rejected.)

Here’s my entry. I might tweak it a bit, though. And here's a song for your listening pleasure; I think it suits the character quite well.

“A gauntlet, eh? This is exactly what I need for my next book! I’ll make those fools tremble before the power of literature!”

Entry Fourm
Name: Print Man
Designation: MPN. (Monsteropolis Publishers Number) 012

Background:
Print Man was one of many robots charged with the operation and patience of printing presses of a major publishing company. Soon after his activation, he grew tired of printing the writings of others and wished to express his own creativity. Eventually, he quit his job and decided to write his own book. Print Man spent several years in isolation, all spent on creating his “masterpiece”. Entitled Oil and Ink, it was a “true-life drama” about a robot who quits his job at a print-shop and writes a best-selling novel.

The latter cannot be said of Print Man: Oil and Ink sold an astounding seven copies and made its author less than a hundred zenny. He immediately became the laughingstock of both Monsteropolis his former company. Publicly humiliated and out of a job, Print Man sunk into a deep depression. He frequented oil bars, drowning his sorrows in E-Tanks while sharing his woes with anyone who would listen. He still wrote, becoming a freelance writer for some of Monsteropolis’ independent literary journals.

Upon hearing of King’s Gambit, Print Man had a glimmer of hope. If he could defeat the tin-plated tyrant’s challenge, he would have the story of a lifetime! A thrilling tale of swashbuckling adventure would be a perfect page-turner! Print Man immediately set out for King’s Tower, his mind adrift in thoughts of riches and fame…

Weapons/Abilities:
Having little to know combat experience before hearing word of King’s challenge, Print Man raced to assemble a makeshift arsenal. Remembering the old adage of “The pen is mightier than the sword”, he combined the two instruments into one lethal device. Dubbed the “Vorpal Pen”, this weapon can disorient Print Man’s opponents with industrial-grade printing ink, leaving them wide open for a lethal slash. For ranged combat, Print Man relies on the “Pencil Buster”, a pencil-styled gattling gun that fires finely-sharpened tungsten points (resembling the graphite tips of pencils).

Personality:
Print Man is extremely talkative, capable of waxing on about a single subject (usually his own work) for hours. His long seclusion has made him rather awkward in public; while his writing may be eloquent, he is not. He has also known to dabble in theater, having acted in several local productions of R. U. R. prior to his entry into the Gauntlet. He reveres the authors, poets, and playwrights of days gone by like gods among men, quoting them whenever he sees fit. Print Man enjoys spending his afternoons libraries and bookstores, but despises “lesser publications” such as romance novels and tabloids.

Appearance:
Print Man has a humanoid design that calls Crash Man, Flash Man, and Magnet Man to mind, albeit in a dirty white. He conceals himself beneath a trench coat and “artistic” beret. His left hand holds his Vorpal Pen, while his right is an emplacement for his Pencil Buster.

(Regarding Spinstrike: ...Woah, geez! Now that... is an exemplary Bio! Take note, fellow players; he clearly outlines his character's motivation and gives him a specific goal to work toward. Not sure how much I approve of the phrase "tin-plated tyrant," but other than that, everything about this bio is warmly welcomed. Accepted wholeheartedly.)

Thanks! I know King isn't exactly a tyrant (what with him being Wily's pawn and all), but it was the best phrase I could think off.

Also, "fattling gun". Use spellcheck, kids.

For my next trick, you shall see my opponents disappear!

Name:Mage Man
Designation: DEN-001 (Doctor Emerald Number)
Type: Time
Design:The classic look of a medieval mage/wizard, but with a robotic head.

Abilities: His Mage Reverse turns around the opponent, causing him to miss. He also reverses other abilities! And his other weapon, the Mage Fireball, is a fireball that seems to be unaffected by other time attacks.
Personality: Originally created for the study of magic, Mage Man is wise, but will fight when he feels. He was a robot of a peaceful doctor, Dr. Emerald, but leaved the castle to practice spell craft, which is how he learned the Mage Fireball. When not fighting or practicing spells, he is seen meditating, threatening to destroy whoever disrupts his meditation. Therefore, he is not a peaceful robot, like Dr. Emerald intended.

(Regarding Bt Man: In truth, I must admit that I am somewhat wary about you. You have encouraged many things I would condemn in a more traditional Role-Playing atmosphere. And this character is a little shaky in the personality department—I can see what you were going for, but it lacks creative flair. And yet, I see their fighting ability, and I see that this character has the potential to be quite interesting. Accepted. But I've got my eye on you.)

(Hooray! The roster is assembled. Now the actual game can begin!)
---
Hours passed without sight or sound on the stone path leading into King's Tower, but eventually, four Robots made their way out of Monstropolis and down the lonely cobblestone—not Robots with dedications, but deserters, Robots that had abandoned their purpose for existing and sought out some form of individual purpose...or had no purpose (Most of them were, anyway). As they walked, they came to the grand Tower's gates, and when all four had gathered, a trumpet sounded once more.

A squat little humanoid Robot, painted solid black, peered out from his lookout post above. "Ah ha, the challengers have arrived!" He waved sheepishly to them, and continued, regardless of whether or not he got a sheepish wave back. "You're here for the King's Gambit Challenge, right? Ah, of course you are—there are four of you, after all, just like King said there'd be! Anyway, take a good long look at the fellows around you, maybe introduce yourself, ask them how they're doin'...because as of right now, the four of you are a team!"

The little black Robot laughed at their apparent shock—a long, rasping laugh, as if it was hilarious. "Didn't see that comin', did ya?! Part of King's instructions. Sometimes, ya have to work with people ya don't want to work with in order to defeat a common foe! It's all part of the job." He laughed, and turned away from the challengers far below him to turn a large, heavy wheel inside his station. As he did, the gates to King's tower swung open, revealing its majestic courtyard, with doors entering the tower proper on the other side. "The challenge begins the second you step through these gates. Good luck!" He turned away again, muttering something under his breath, and glancing out the window to monitor the challengers.

Panting heavily, Print Man stumbled toward the rest of the party. Not the most athletic of robots, he’d been lagging behind for most of the journey. It was just his luck that King had installed an anti-teleportation field around his tower, probably to keep out any unwanted visitors. He hadn't heard much of the gatekeeper robot’s speech, but he’d heard enough to know the robots he’d been traveling with in stony silence for the last few hours were now his only allies.

Print Man looked about at the three other robots in front of him. The first was the tallest of the bunch, casting a massive shadow over his smaller compatriots. A purple, armadillo-like shell almost half his size hung from his back, and a devilish smirk crossed his face. The second was much stouter, with a bright orange hull decorated with red and black markings, much like those of playing card suits. His expression was blank, but it was clear he was carefully observing everyone around him. The last was what appeared to be a mechanical iteration of a high fantasy wizard, complete with a robe, pointed cap, and staff. He sat in a meditative stance, legs crossed and eyes closed.

After a full minute of silence, Print Man dusted off his coat, adjusted his beret, cleared his throat, and began to speak.

“Afternoon, gentlemen. Seems like we’re together in all this, so like that gatekeeper fellow said, we may as well get acquainted.”

Silence.

“…guess I’ll go first, then. The name’s Print Man; I’m an author. I trust some of you are familiar with my work? Not that it matters now, what with the situation at hand.”

More silence. This time accompanied by razor-sharp glares.

“Erm…anyone else care to introduce themselves?”

Mage Man looks at the robot in a trench cloak and "artistic" beret. "My name is Mage Man. And you might wanna back off away from me in battle if you don't want to be burned. Just saying." He looks at the other 2. I wonder how they can do in battle. And WHAT we're battling. he thought.

Gamble Man studies his company quizzically. An author with a trench coat, a magician attired in the stereotypical robe and staff, and a purple robot carrying an armadillo like shell with surprising ease. He supposed an introduction now would be the best time.

"I am DJN 002, but you can call me Gamble Man. I will address the elephant in the room. Err, courtyard. I came here expecting to only rely on a myself, as I presume you all did. I do not want petty arguments to get in the way of collaborations on challenges. Do not think for even one millisecond that I will not shift gears from being your greatest ally to your worst enemy. We have a Print Man, a Magician Man, was it, and yours truly. Who exactly are you, shell carrying robot?"

He hoped his intimidation worked, as it appeared the three robots who stood before him were equipped with strong weapons and ready for battle. This was not Gamble Man's strong suit, and he still did not know what challenges would occur behind these castle walls.

Boss Man has no time to post early......

While the others looked on at the colossal robot, they stared at his features, in case something were to happen that would force them to fight this robot. This robot with all eyes on him continued to stare ahead to the courtyard. What seemed like hours passed, until the group of robots noticed the "drool" coming out the left corner of his mouth. He began to snore with his eyes open, and at this point, they realized that he somehow fell asleep, despite all the tension in the courtyard. The Magical Robot taps the big oaf on his shoulder, he being the only one who wasn't afraid of the other robots in the area.

"Err...Stop it, Doc....My system is on shutdown....Oh, yeah! I came here to be some herald or something! Anyway, I'll squish these squeaks and I'll be on my way!"

The robot high above in the fortress above stated "Actually sir, your job is to work with these....'squeaks'."

"What?! That's not fair! They're all short guys like me! How are we going to beat big guys with no big guys?!"

The robot above thought ("He doesn't seem to realize that his stature is actually pretty huge...")

"Bah, whatever! My name's Insanity Man, not a big fan of the name, but that's my name....I got thrown out by my creator, and this job here is really all I have as excitement. Here's the plan, fellows! All three of you run in there and distract them from me! I'll roll in and then do all the rest!"

The robot starts talking in a commando voice for whatever reason there could be.....

"Men, there will be casualties on your part! I understand you all fully realize the risk of this, and to be honest, no one will miss you. If all that is done, let's move out men!"

No one moves.....

"Men? You're supposed to be going inside and distracting? Here, I'll show you."

Insanity Man walks into the courtyard with no risk, even yelling a "See? Everything's fine! Now you try!"

All three robots, and even the dark robot above have a look of utter distrust in this robot, and it seems the armadillo bot doesn't really notice....
