Alright, you guys want me to give this a spin? I'll give this a spin. First, I'll have to set a few boundaries, though:
1. This will be done in the traditional paragraph format (Meaning all words, none of that picture stuff). Therefore, I will be expecting a certain level of detail in your responses. Since I think I'm the only veteran here, I'll be setting the bar fairly low, but I want to see effort.
2. YOU MUST CREATE YOUR OWN CHARACTER. Canon Mega Man characters will be rejected on sight, and characters named after yourself, almost certainly so, on the grounds that self-insert characters are boring. Before you join, you will submit a Bio for your character, providing basic information such as name and creator (If relevant), as well as a brief summary of the character's appearance, a rough take on their personality, and, perhaps most importantly of all, some form of backstory. I reserve the right to reject any character Bio from joining, provided that I give sufficient reasoning and advice on improving the character.
3. Although this RP is primarily to test your ability to write in detail and play fairly in a conventional (If structureless) role-playing environment, I will be expecting consistent characterization from all players. In a way, I'll be making this easier for you, since you'll be working with a personality that you established yourself.
4. Have fun...or else! No, seriously, I didn't come here to be the Murderer of Fun; I'll be trying to have fun with it too! So have fun with it.
What's that? "Enough with the rules, Chaos, what's this RP actually about?"
I'm glad you asked. I was just getting to that.
---
The year 20XX. The city of Monstropolis was enjoying a sigh of relief. Dr. Wily was safely behind bars once again, thanks to the heroic actions of none other than Mega Man. This particular day was not a day of celebration, but of peace—all quiet, save for the dullish hum of life going on in the city. Or, at least, it was quiet, until a sounding trumpet in the distance played a king's herald.

Or, rather, the King's herald. Sure enough, every television in Monstropolis displayed King's face—headdress, war paint, and benevolent smile. "Good morning, Monstropolis," the once-deposed monarch beamed through the camera signal.

Initially, the citizens looked up at the monitor in fear. King had not been seen since his exodus a few years back; all had thought him dead until now. He took note of this immediately, and tried to relax, slipping off his helm to reveal tufts of radiant blue hair. "Peace be upon you, citizens! I know this is a time of peace for Monstropolis; I do not approach in order to wage war once again. Oh, rest assured, there will be conflict, but for the sake of those who would partake in it!" Clearing his throat, King began a somewhat lengthy explanation.

"I still believe in a world where man and metal man can live in peace, if not in unity. But as long as Robots will fight other Robots to preserve that peace, I think it only fair that there should be an entire league of heroes, not just those who made me see when I had been made blind by the hands of the madman! If we all prepare ourselves, we can uphold this peace, and make the world a better place to live in! Am I not correct?" A few citizens nodded quietly; others clapped.

"Indeed I am! And in my journeys across this world, I have found other Robots who also thought I was correct. We have formed an alliance and sharpened our bodies and minds, and today, we stand before you to offer you a chance to do the same—in a game we call the King's Gambit Challenge!"

"The rules are simple: four chosen Robots will arrive on the scene and battle through a gauntlet of my companions. The battles are for training purposes, so any Robot who is incapacitated will be repaired and sent home. Those who claim victory against the entire gauntlet will leave not only with honor, title, and the ability to protect themselves and theirs, but they will also earn access to our humble armory."

"So! To all Robots out there who hear my call, to all that wish to uphold peace, to all who wish to take this King's Gambit Challenge...decide amongst yourselves who will go first, and of the four chosen, gird yourselves for combat! And, creators...please try to make arrangements for the Robot to take part in this; if they are successful, they will return to you more useful than they were before."

"Meet us at my old Tower on the outskirts of town. You'll find it refurbished, with us waiting there for you." And, as suddenly as King's transmission had appeared, it vanished, and the screens returned to their typical displays.

The challenge was set. The question was...who would rise to the challenge?

(You cannot submit any more bios. MegaBossMan, Spinstrike, Btman, Tobyjoey, and I are the only people allowed to contribute to the story.)

Mage Man quickly used Mage Reverse at the right moment. He didn't know what Insanity Man was up to. Either he learned that he has to help... He thought, ...or he was just applying to his name. Either way, Knight might not be able to avoid this.

True to the name, Mage Reflect sent Insanity Man backwards. However, due to the angle Mage Man was facing, Insanity Man was sent backwards....Towards Knight. The strike hit the gallant warrior straight in his abdominal region, cracking his cerulean armor, and sent him spiraling backwards, knocking him off his high horse. He wiped the dirt off his forehead. Knight propped himself upon his horse once again. However, one could notice Knight seemed to be smiling under his helmet.

"Incredible, this was EXACTLY what my Lord wants. Nice formation, very unpredictable, true to your nature. However, you were lucky Mage Man got what you were looking for, because you could've heavily harmed your teammate. Perhaps next time, you could be more vocal? Ah, I digress! Now, prepare thyselves, especially you, DHN:43 Insanity! Or, is that really your name? Heh."

Insanity Man no longer kept that happy-go-luck smirk on his face, and now had an angered expression. His teammates could tell this wasn't the same Insanity Man from a short while ago. He rushed Knight in a chaotic rage, knocking over several objects in his way. Knight swiftly avoided his attack, but Insanity Man continued to rush in that same direction. Insanity Man could no longer tell friend from foe, and continued to destroy the royal battlefield. What about Knight's statement has blinded Insanity Man in a fit of rage? What secrets is this seemingly-simple robot keeping?

Find out next time, on King's Gambit.[OOC: No, just kidding.]

@Spinstrike : I don't exactly see what you mean here. I assume you mean Knight, but I had to use him real quick for sake of story. I don't think our enemies should be completely mute. And in case you think Knight's too powerful, I don't really think so. He's not too hurt, I'd imagine that armor is good for something.

Though his foes were quickly growing more angry, Knight's disposition had not changed from the start of the battle, laughing gaily as he swung his lance down at the heads of his foes. He allowed Insanity to rampage about, figuring that he was going to wear his combat systems down—though every time he stepped near a support pillar, Knight shouted and his iron horse charged straight into him, shoving him away from there.

Suddenly, without warning, he stopped in the center of the battlefield. "Try dodging this!" he cried, and, taking his lance in one hand, hurled it at Gamble-Man.

Right before the lance hit Gamble Man, Mage Man jumped in front of him and used Mage Reverse, sending the lance back.

"Wait, no! I wasn't ready!" shrieked Gamble Man. Mage Man's Mage Reverse worked on flying the lance back. A little too well, unfortunately, as just before the lance was reflected, it snagged a part of Gamble's should pad, causing him to go reflected with the lance, hanging by the shoulder. As he was held up like a token of war, he saw Insanity, still full of rage, Mage, appearing shocked by the sudden movement, and Print, who seemed to crack a slight smile while observing what Gamble was planning. Gamble seemed to be nervously fidgeting with something while Knight admired his "catch". Just before Gamble broke free of the long, sharp weapon of Knight's choice, he snickered "You are strong Knight, but let us test your reflexes." Knight sat on his horse a little confused as the bomb Gamble attached to his armored back while caught on the lance exploded, Gamble just barely escaping the explosion radius.

Seizing the opportunity Gamble Man had so generously provided, Print Man ripped a strip of cloth from a half-burnt banner. Taking a end in each hand, he wrapped it around a nearby column and pulled himself up with it, gaining an excellent vantage point over the battle. "Steady...steady..." Print Man muttered to himself as he heard the cloth begin to tear.

He didn't have to hold on for long. Soon enough, Insanity Man barreled toward the pillar he was desperately clutching to, prompting Knight's steed to knock him away yet again. Just before it could return to the engagement, Print Man leapt from his perch and landed atop the distracted mount. He scrambled for the reins as the iron horse attempted to buck him off its back.

Insanity Man once again was hit, and this time, it woke him up out of his rage. Cracking his knuckles and giving a yawn, Insanity Man stretched a bit and prepared himself for battle. Insanity could see Print Man on the wild horse, whom was careening out of control in an attempt to take the brilliant "author" off his back.

"Oh, what a beautiful day today! The sky is black, the roses are crushed, and horses rebel against robotic brethren! Just my type of day! Wonder how I fell asleep though?"

Insanity rushed to the battlefield, and noticed something about the pillars. Originally designed to work in hazardous battle zones, he could pinpoint certain unused advantages in battle.

"This room is pretty well-built, eh? Course, I'd bet it's due to those pillows around the room. The one near the broken window, the one in the center of the room, the one next to Knight's lance, and the one at the start of the room could break off and not damage this room too much.....I think. Our attacks aren't doing much to that protected armor of his, but a more focused attack could be just what we need to turn the biscuits....."

(Sorry for being away for so long. As you've probably predicted without me, I've been absorbed by Smash 4 Hype.

...And I probably will be for some time. I'm awfullysorry for getting you all excited and then letting this RP stagnate, but I feel like keeping you folks waiting on the edge of your seat is worse than being frank about it.

So for the time being, the King's Gambit Challenge is on hold. I promise we will finish it eventually. If I don't, you have the right to throw large, heavy objects at me. Stay tuned for more royal decrees after the break!)

Just kidding, I understand completely. I'll be picking up the new Smash this weekend. But I am trying to put together an RP thread similar to yours. Any tips for a first-timer like me?)

I also plan to make a RP thread in a similar fashion to this, so any tips for me as well?)

(Alright, alright, it's been long enough. Let's get this show back on the road!)

The Gamble Bomb was quick to detonate, sending Knight flying off the back of his horse and onto the ground. For a moment, he lay completely still, smoke coming off of his heavily armored chassis in waves, then he reached for his lance and picked himself up with it, his iron horse flailing and fighting all the while. "Ho, now that was a good hit..." he said, "but it'll take more than that to stop me!" He dutifully trudged back toward the battle, and, approaching his Iron Horse, struck Print-Man with his lance. "I believe that that is mine!"

(OOC: Welcome back, Chaos!)

"Beg pardon sir, but-ack!" Print Man blurted as Knight's blow forcibly dismounted him from the Iron Horse. However, his left foot remained stuck in the stirrup, leaving the author-bot to be dragged about the chamber. Barley maintaining his grasp on his Vorpal Pen , Print Man let loose a stream of ink from the tip of the blade, tripping the pursing Knight and leaving him covered in the slimy black liquid. "Would someone-oof!-mind igniting-arugh!-that puddle?" Print Man stuttered amidst the flurry of kicks from the unruly Iron Horse.

[OOC: How long this story hasn't been updated surprises me! Well, I might as well get it going]

Insanity Man, standing directly from Knight, continued to ponder about the pillar situation in the room.

"Now that I think about it, only breaking four pillars...Just wouldn't be enough. I'm not one for ruining what will be my castle, but there should be a way I can break, say, almost all the pillars in this room without the entire castle collapsing. Making it so that this room supports the whole thing be a pretty "insane" move by King. So, if I'm guessing right, I can basically hit anything here and hope the whole thing doesn't collapse. I'd assume the ceilings have support beams, due to the design of dem ceilings. Print Man, over there, seems like he's having fun being dragged. Too bad I'm the only one who gets to have fun! Might as well tell em bout my plan too."

Insanity Man, taking quick notice of the fiery puddle, concocts a plan so brilliant-Wait, that's not the word. Insane, more like. He forms into his familiar armadillo-form, and starts gaining momentum. At the last second, he separates from his shell and goes flying! The shell itself also heads with him, still full with kinetic energy.

Knight, distracted from the flaming puddle, tries his hardest to steer his horse away from the burning trap. Before he knows it, however, a familiar shell pops out of the flames! Knight, quickly reacting, manages to command his horse to kick the shell away.[Also, he doesn't notice Insanity wasn't in the shell] Unfortunately for Knight, he underestimated the speed of the shell, noticing his steed's front right leg was more crippled than before. As he prepares himself for battle, a aerial fist suddenly struck him on the cheek! He's launched off his noble steed, onto the battle-ridden floor. The mechanical horse, with no master to command it, panics directly onto the flaming puddle that Print Man and Mage Man set.

Insanity Man, who prepares to get the dickens out of there, grabs Print Man off the horse. Luckily, it was before the horse decided to charge into the flames. Quickly running to where his shell was kicked, he motions Gamble and Mage to come.

"Listen, we ain't got much time to explain! Plan of action now, hit pillars, avoid dumb and dumber over there. Capiche? By the way, after this....Nothing! Forget it!"

The other robots look at him and nod, as Knight gets up from the floor, showing a slight hint of rage, and his horse escapes out of the now-extinguished trap.

(Nice try, guys. Pen ink is primarily water-based and has no flammable contents. Let's see what really happened...)

Just as before, Knight pulled himself back onto his feet with his lance, slightly irked that his lavish armor had been stained by the black liquid. "You've done a fair number on my horse there...SLVR-Lite, retreat! We'll ride into battle together another day."

Nodding as if in response, the horse whinnied and galloped out the same stained-glass window it had smashed, leaving Knight alone to defend himself. As Insanity's outer shell came rolling towards him, he batted it away as he had before, noting that it seemed oddly lighter—and as his fist connected with Knight's helmet, he became enlightened as to why. The blow stunned him for a moment, but he resolutely remained on his feet, and as his head cleared, he swung at the air before his banded-together foes. "Come now, surely you are not above fighting me head-on!"
