Maybe we could still have the Copy Change gimmick, with them changing to the Core's type when they hold one. That way if someone doesn't like any of the available Water Core Robot Masters, for example, they can slap a Water Core on Bass or someone and use them again.

I'll always wait for the ability to use the Dark Man set, even if it'll never show up.

This all seems like it'll improve how the game goes, especially the mission revision. It wasn't fun having to grind just to beat the first Robot Master at all.

I think he means the Mega Man Killer fights, since they don't have Mets or anything, it's just the Killer. It'd be best to level Defense first, so you can survive a capped Power attack.

I still refuse to vote due to lack of "I wanted a different Mega Man who hasn't gotten to be in a fighting game whaaaaaa" options.
I mean X specifically because Mega Man was in Marvel VS Capcom 1, X series Zero was in MvC3 and some other ones, MegaMan.EXE was in Onimusha Blade Warriors, along with Zero series Zero, and Volnutt was in Tatsunoku VS Capcom.

Legends 1 was on 64, the Gameboy had the portable Mega Man games, there was Mega Man Xtreme on GBC, and nothing on Virtual Boy, I think. X7CM was on Gamecube, as well.

I think the overflow should be reduced some, with Tails' maths. With the score balls, it'll make the gap between the top ranks and the lower ones even bigger. Without them, it's the worst kind of cash; meaningless cash.

On the other hand, ranking is just bragging rights anyways.

Another guarded an extra life, the last one I completely forget. And yea, I'd love to have the Dark Man group in. Where would they go in a non-Bonus Field, though? If the missions were divided into stages, I'd say they'd go before the Robot Master, and after a Mecha fight.

Also, Smash isn't most fighting games, and the Dark Men are full-on boss fights from what I remember.

It'll be dead until people hang around. The problem is that people don't want to hang around in an empty chat, leaving if there's nobody in there. Then when other people check on it, they see there's nobody in, and leave too.

If they don't correspond, the Mecha Support feels less unique. With it being one of the few things differentiating capped Robot Masters right now, duplicate Supports would make them even more identical.

Besides, Sniper Joes are more of a mini-boss type enemy, guarding boss doors in MM1 and whatnot. There's nowhere for minibosses to really go right now, though.

Eh, huge means easy to hit, and the only time you shouldn't be dashjumping like a madman in the X series is either during Storm Owl's desperation attack, or if you decide to be some kind of idiot who tries to justify using or not using a Ride Armor during a minimalist playthrough.

I feel like looking through all the menus should be the first thing done in any game, but that's just me.

I always thought X3's chump was Blizzard Buffalo, myself.
I think Zero 4 had a tutorial prompt explaining "Oh hey the bosses are helped or hindered by the weather" but eh. Zero 1 and 2 are harder for me because I refuse to eat Cyberelves to gain power.

Eh, I didn't have many problems with it, the game's really good at giving you several different ways to clear the field at once.

I'd say some lower difficulties with crippled stats would be good, with higher ones available as well. Something like
Very Easy: 50% stats
Easy: 75% stats
Normal: 100% stats
Hard: 150% stats
Very Hard: 200% stats

Maybe some with higher percents, and maybe with fun names like DooM or Heretic have.

I can see that being a good idea. Maybe make each Robot Master preceded by a few gradually increasing waves of Fleas or whatever. That way you can get more Experience before actually fighting the Robot Master.

Also BN5 is more fun I think.

Hey now, X7's just fine, Massimo alone is pretty rad. I usually don't like JRPGs either.

Starforce? It sounds like a Player Battle.

Also Crash Bomber is not reliant on Attack, which is why it's not especially good for Crash Man.

To unlock Roll, Disco, and Rhythm, you have to lose one time with Dr. Light, two times with Dr. Wily, or three times with Dr. Cossack respectively. They are the only Robot Masters currently unlockable through a method other than "Charge Shot that chump."

There's no Character passwords for unimplemented characters, as far as I know.
For weapons, there's the Bubble Bomb and Shadow Blade passwords, which I don't remember.
For Battle passwords, there's just the Player Battles one, which I also don't remember.

I'd be all for that. I think the more powerful ones should have some sort of downside though. Like, you can crit more often but you crit for less damage, or you get a slight regen but take more damage.

The Cataclysm theory was caused by the Maverick Virus, not Zero.
Sigma died at the end of X5, and X6 Sigma was a copy made by Gate.
X's kids did not die unceremoniously to Omega farting or whatever, but rather while leading a glorious, devastating attack that ended with their heroic deaths, and them protecting Neo Arcadia from Omega.
ZX3 will feature a Biometal based on Vile for the main characters. And they'll steal the other Biometals and use them to make the weapons do cool stuff, like Model F giving a flamethrower, punches, or a burst fire cannon.

Yamato Man appeared because he's a Cutter Core, and you have to beat the Robot Master on their stage to unlock them. However, he does not have a stage, mech, or weapon yet.

I'm not happy with how I drew Laser Man either. I planned to include LaserMan.EXE's skirt thing, but I felt that not having it worked better. The red beam pattern thing is taken partially from someone completely different. The helmet, I have no idea where I got it from. I think Robocop.
Also, Paint is all I know how to use. Please, anyone competent, redraw him.

So we do something like

PCN-009 Gate Man
A robot designed for lab assistance work, Gate Man can generate viruses to attack for him.

Viral Orb
Sends an orb composed of viral data, dealing damage and poisoning two additional Robot Masters.

Gater
Summons a swarm of viruses to attack the enemy, attacking nine times and poisoning the enemy.

Quotes:

Start Quote: Ha ha! This madness is so liberating!
Taunt Quote: Your data will serve me well, [Robot]!
Victory Quote: Now, I can create the ultimate virus!
Defeat Quote: Was there a flaw in my viruses?


I based everything off a mix of GateMan.EXE and Gate from X6, and I'd love some X series references for the Cache Numbers. This will be reflected in the concept art I'm scribbling up.

I welcome any and all proportion changes because I can't proportions.
Anyways, I included the emblems of Punk.EXE on the shoulders and GridMan.EXE in the abdominal area, seeing as Mr. Famous used them as well as GateMan.EXE. I couldn't find a way to work in KendoMan.EXE's stuff, but then, I think we should just leave him be. I left out GateMan.EXE's distinctive "dog ears" in favor of Gate's headcrest thing from his armored form.

I'm really not happy with the quotes, but I don't think GateMan.EXE ever says anything.

Also, Gate Man is listed as PCR-009 instead of PCN-009.

There were also SP and DS in BN5, and BN6 had RV bosses. Those could be for even harder fights, maybe with the DS and RV versions drawing from part of your Star Force.

I've barely played Mega Man 3, I mostly know stuff from Day in the Limelight 2, and that's not the most accurate source.I don't find myself listening to the music lots though, and only really remember Top Man's theme off the top of my head.

I've heard of it, it's not my kind of game.

To use a more well known example, if a unit in Fire Emblem, say, The Black Knight in Path of Radiance, or Hector in Blazing Sword, has too much defense (or Plot Armor), you get this euphoric/heart-sinking little tink noise and a big "NO DAMAGE" instead of a number.

This is just the damage degrading too far to do anything though. More like someone in Jagged Alliance 2 getting grazed by some handcannon from a third of the way across the map and taking 2 damage.

That would be a mess of copyright issues, Coolbie. Capcom owns the rights, and Adrian would have to get their permission to use their sprites, characters, music, and all that other stuff. He'd also need permission from the remixer, since it's their remix, and overall it just couldn't be done.

Still want it to happen though.

Hey, X6 was a horrible trainwreck, and X7 changed to an RPG for no reason, but don't go hating on X8. That was great, even if it was way too hard. It's probably the only non-NES game where pelleting is even remotely effective, it has mix-and-match armor, it's got a cool soundtrack and Sigma Fortress, a decent plot twist, and even great foreshadowing for X9.

ZX I could go on about for even MORE, mind you.

I was always confused by there being more negative ratings than positive on the 10-point scale.

I found a Mega Man-esque fangame a while ago, realized I hadn't tried it before now, and tried it yesterday. I'd give the name, but I think someone would get the wrong idea. So I'll just give a screenshot and leave things at that.

Guest starring Anti-Protoman who is just as easy as the original.

It's a shame because it's really well made, aside from the painful controls of "Arrow Keys to move, Z to shoot, X to jump."
This is completely backwards from how you would think to play anything, where it would be left hand moves, right hand jumps and shoots.
So I abused my mouse's reconfiguration wossnames to make left click shoot and one of the side keypad things jump to make it easier on me, with the fun side effect of pelleting even faster.

Even on fighting games I'd rather have my hands get some space between then than play around with crossing my arms just to do a Hadouken or whatever I want to use. And some games, like X5's PC port, don't let you use my plan B of the numpad.
Coincidentally, that also locks you into using the arrow keys. I may or may not have emulated the PS1 version out of sheer hate.

I'd much rather play with a keyboard than a controller. I probably couldn't have beaten X5 with a PS1 controller, mostly because of it being harder to dash on it than a PC.

My advice, and it's probably the best advice you can get, is to stay FAR away from arrow keys if you can avoid it. WASD for movement and JKL; for jumpin' and shootin' and dashin' is what I usually use in everything.

No seriously I really want to break the no swearing rule to truly express my hatred of using the arrow keys.

2. If enemy is immune or has affinity to Explosive, use Wily Buster
3. If enemy has higher defense than own attack, use Crash Bomber
4. If enemy is has less defense than own attack or is weak to Explosive, use Hyper Bomb

I feel like following Fast Man's lead and doing the Shield abilities. Not raw numbers though, I'm bad at doing that.

Mirror Buster
The user is unable to attack, switch, or use items for two turns. After, all damage the user took is doubled and returned.

Star Crash
The user creates a set of orbiting stars, which can then be thrown to hit all opponents.

Plant Barrier
The user connects to a shield of plant life, allowing them to heal 15% of their Life Energy each turn, or throw the shield to drain their opponent's Life Energy.

Junk Shield
The user assembles a shield of scattered debris, reducing damage by 25%. This shield can also be thrown for massive damage!

Jewel Satellite
The user forms a shield of jagged gems, raising Attack by 20%, which can then be thrown for massive damage.

For the Trios, Psi as a word is usually in reference to the mind, Chi as a concept is power from the soul, and Phi had a firefly-shark-werewolf guy who was named after it.

Speaking of that, maybe each game could have a secret Robot Master you get for, say, beating every mission with one character or something, maybe changing requirements for each game.

MM1 gets Mega Man?, 2 gets the Alien, 3 gets Doc Robot, 4 gets Break Man, 5 gets a Dark Man, 6 gets a downsized Metonger Z, 7 gets a smaller Guts Man G, MM8 gets someone who probably isn't Duo, MM&B gets mini-King or something, and no idea for 9 and 10. Fake Man and Mega Man X?

"The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service was terminated on May 20, 2014 for all Wii and DS games; online play features incorporated into these games are no longer be available after this date; the shutdown is connected to the shutdown of multiplayer services by GameSpy, who was acquired by Glu Mobile in 2012. 3DS and Wii U games are not affected by the shutdown because their multiplayer platform uses Nintendo's own infrastructure instead of a third-party service. The Wii Shop Channel, DSiWare shop, third-party video services, and the Pay & Play variants will remain active for the moment."

So it's all IGN's fault in the end.

I think it was the MM7 Robot Masters that were made by someone else. Might just be Megamix though. Still, the Proto Shield was a secret weapon in that, so Cossack could get them because of that.

Didn't they cancel Rockman Online and Rockman Dash 3 before Inafune left? I'm pretty sure they did, although that may just be because I have no memory.

I do admit that I'm happy that this was never released though. I can't see X beating things to death with melee.

I don't think I've had this problem with Firefox, but I did notice that a double KO with Danger Bomb leaves the AI team in a sort of limbo until a hostile action is taken.
Such as trying to shoot them in the face.

I'll try this in Firefox again and pass along what happens.

EDIT: Here's the turn before the Crash Bomber on Proto Man S explodes, and meanwhile I'm aiming a Bubble Bomb.

Eyup, that's not gonna be fun.

Since the front page says there's 92 abilities, and the top few people have 101, does the front page not count the MM3 weapons, since they have to be Copy Shot for, or Buster Shot, since you don't have to unlock it?

The only way I've found to make Crash Bomber better is to increase the multiplier on the field. It's main use is picking off high-defense enemies, I think, but that seems a bit wasting of Crash Man's Attack stat.

I'm pretty sure Bass has some form of stealth detection, but can't remember if he does perfectly. He could just stick with Operation Blindfire and fire around the last place he was hit, and Zeratul probably wouldn't last long under Bass Buster fire because I don't think Dark Templars get shields.

Or am I thinking of cloaked stuff in Star Trek games?

With all the charged weapons and status attacks there are and will be, I think a drop-down menu showing temporary effects and their durations would help see which Busters are charged and how long your Robot Master is unable to switch.

The pellets worked in the first three games, and they still work in X8. I always assumed that they just have some sort of shielding that can block weak, repeated shots, but high-power ones tear through them.

Well I saw this one guy go through all the X1-X3 levels, and the X4-6 bosses, with no dashing, and I wanted to try myself.

I ignored that he did this with no damage and in fact played through X6 with as few upgrades as he could.

I don't really pay much attention to either, but I like Bass' design as a contrast to Mega Man's, and he was more fun in what little of Mega Man and Bass I was able to play before sending it the way of Battle Network 4, X6, and X7.

It probably didn't deserve it, thinking about it. Just way too hard for me, who died to Flame Mammoth in Mega Man X.

I tried to make Vile have very self-destructive attacks, whenever it wasn't too redundant. The dual types are all regarding the Maverick he gets them from and who he gets the weapon system from, IE the Ball Weapon System for Peace Out Roller is gotten from Armored Armadillo, and the weapon itself is from Spark Mandrill. Sadly I could not find a believable way to make Frozen Castle and Speed Devil negatively affect Vile and still make sense.

And Necro Burst is Shadow Core because of the first half and I couldn't think of an excuse for it to be Missile other than "Launch Octopus gives it to you."

For Air Man, since Dust Man's weapon is already Wind/Impact, I think maybe a Wind/Swift would give more variety.

EDIT: Checking his move pool, it would overlap with Buster Rod, so maybe a Wind/Earth tornado flinging debris?

Well that's disappointing. I'd rather he was an alternate costume and his Final Smash was the Mega Arm or the Super Adaptor or maybe even the Dual Mega Buster from Super Adventure Rockman.

So if what Retro thinks is true, I'm guessing any moves that the core wouldn't be able to use, like Flash Stopper on a Freeze Core, would be removed from the Robot Master.

You need to be Adrian, then you can fight any currently programmed Robot Master. Otherwise you can only fight the Mega Man 1-4 Robot Masters.
And some other ones but only 1-4 are complete sets.

Could be an expansion after the game is launched, each character getting two games' characters. Maybe BN1 and 4 for Wily, because those are terrible, BN2 and 5 for Cossack, because those refined it, and BN 3 and 6 for Light, because he's the good guy and gets the best games.
Then again, I think it was BN3 that had the best Bass fight, but not sure about that.

From what I can tell, yes, having more Robot Masters on your team splits the EXP more between them. Having two means each gets half, three means a third each, and onward.

That's about it, except it's live action and there's a bunch of other organizations running around not figuring out that the ones based on insects tend to get free.
Also, they all like to do flying kicks to finish off the other monsters.
