It is the year 20XX. And humans... No longer exist. In their place are industrial humanoid robots known as Robot Masters, and the Mechas that live alongside them in peace. However, peace doesn't always last... A threat to the world of Robot Masters looms above, and it is up to an unlikely crew of robots to save the day... But are they up to the task? Are YOU up to the task? The world's fate rests in your hands...

After the release of Retro Pikachu's remake of Tails' Lab Defense, I decided I wanted to make a new roleplay myself, in hopes of reviving the MMRPG roleplaying community. And with the release of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, I decided "hey, why not?"
How to Play: (Or, in other words, "Beta just copy-pasted the rules from Retro's Lab Defense lol")

Ok, so you know how PMD games would have you take one step per turn, your partner would follow behind, and all the enemies would then take a step? Yeah, no, let's toss that turn system out the window. Being only able to take one step at a time might work for a video game, but for a forum roleplay? Yeah, WAY too sluggish. So, yeah, we'll be using some different mechanics. And, ok, sure, I may have stol- er, borrowed, the mechanics of Lab Defense, but hey, if the system works, it works. And besides, I've added and removed some things to make it a bit more Mystery Dungeon-esque...

Your journeys will take place in randomly assembled maps called Mystery Dungeons. The maps will be based off of Lab Defense, however, because I'm not going to bother trying to make an entire Mystery Dungeon map on my own. Too much effort for a simple forums roleplay.

Each robot on the field can take a certain number of steps at a time. Afterwards, they can use an attack, use an item in their inventory, or they can simply just wait. However, you CANNOT move after attacking or using an item. After all players have taken their turn, the enemies will have THEIR phase.

To make a move, either leave a reply in the thread or ping me in the Roleplay channel on Discord. If you don't make a move after ~24 hours of the start of your phase, your turn will be automated. At a certain point, however, I will stop automating your turn and just plain set you on idle; Believe it or not, this rule is NOT set up to have me play the game for you.

There are two kinds of allies: Teammates and Players. Teammates are other robots who are part of your Team, and are to be controlled by you as well. Teammates will follow you to the next floor once the floor's objective is complete. You may only have 4 teammates in the dungeon at a time, with two spaces reserved for the leader and partner. That may change in the postgame, however. On the other hand, there are Players. These allies are, of course, other users and their teammates who happen to be in the same dungeon and on the same floor as you. As they are from a different team, however, they will NOT follow you to the next floor. I may or may not make some exceptions during the introduction phase.

When you gain a level, your stats will increase, and you may or may not gain a new Weapon depending on your stat boons and your core types. You will gain EXP from defeating foes and clearing missions. Defeating foes will ALSO grant your Teammates half of the EXP gained from defeating them.

While some floors will require you to find the stairs in order to progress, there are also several other objectives for you to accomplish. We'll be discussing what some of these objectives may be in the future.

Character Creation:

Are you a human being sent into our world to save us all, or just another robot who lives in the world naturally? The answer is, that's for you to decide. Either way, I'm not going to do some PMD-style quiz to determine what Robot Master you are. Why? Because just giving you a small handful of options for who you'll be is absolutely lame. Instead, you get to make the decision of who you are- and who your partner will be- for yourself. And yes, you will be required to make TWO characters instead of just one.

Here is the character sheet:

Team Name:

Name:
Icon:
HP:
WE:
ATK:
DEF:
SPD:

Core:
Subcore:
Weakness:
Resistance:

And now, an in-depth look at what these are:

Team Name- The name of your team. This has been added after the Introduction phase, because we’re not going through it again. This wasn’t a part of it to begin with for story reasons.

Name- The name of the robot, obviously.
Icon- The icon the robot you'll be using. Refer to the [robot] or [mecha] formats for use of their mugshots (custom mugs are welcome, too, through use of the [image] formatting).

Stats:
You will have a total of 25 points to spend on 5 different stats. Spend them wisely. Or don't. Your choice. Just know that you can't spend any more than 25.

HP- Health Points, also known as Energy. How much damage you take before you fall. Each point spent on this stat is 2 HP.
WE- Weapon Energy. It is the cost of your Special Weapons. Replenishes 1 WE on each turn. Each point spent on this stat is 2 WE.
ATK- Attack. Increases how much damage you deal.
DEF- Defense. Decreases how much damage you take.
SPD- Speed. Determines how far you can move. Each step is 2 SPD.

In addition to the points given to the stats, you can add one Boon and Bane to them. A Boon will add 2 extra points to the stat, and will increase its growth. It also controls what kind of passive Special Weapons you can obtain, as well as your Ability 2. A Bane will remove 2 points from that stat, and will slow down its growth. You can NOT have one over the other.

Core- Your main Core type. Determines the kind of elemental Special Weapons you can obtain, as well as your Ability 1.
Subcore- Your secondary Core type. Also determines the kind of elemental Special Weapons you can obtain, but to a lesser extent (meaning you can only obtain the buster weapons and Tier 1 weapons of this type).

Do note that you can use ANY type within Prototype EXCEPT for Copy Core, which has been replaced with Neutral. In addition, your partner cannot be the same Core or Subcore type as you.

Weakness- Attacks of this type deal more damage.
Resistance- Attacks of this type deal less damage.

You MUST have a Weakness and Resistance. Failure to apply this will cause me to assign one to you based on how I personally feel they should be.

The following is determined by your stat boon and Core type.

Weapons: Your Special Weapons that can be utilized after moving. You can only have 8 Special Weapons at a time. In addition, you will be given a singular Basic Attack that costs no Weapon Energy and take up no Special Weapon slots.
Abilities: Your special abilities that will activate under specific conditions. You will only have 2, but they can be changed through the use of specific items.

And this LAST "stat" is determined by your progression through the roleplay.

Rank: The Ranking of your Team, which can be raised by completing missions. Ranking up grants you more inventory spaces for items, increases the number of missions available for everyone, and may even gift you some other rewards.

EXAMPLE:

Team Name: Team Beta and Mega

Name: Beta Man
Icon:
HP: 5
WE: 6
ATK: 5(+)
DEF: 4(-)
SPD: 5

Core: Shadow
Subcore: Time
Weakness: Electric
Resistance: Flame

Name: Mega Man X-7
Icon: mega-man
HP: 6
WE: 5(-)
ATK: 4
DEF: 5
SPD: 5(+)

Core: Flame
Subcore: Nature
Weakness: Electric
Resistance: Laser

The resulting set-up will be...

Team Beta and Mega
Rank: Plain (0/100)

Beta Man | Level: 1 (0/50)
Core: Shadow | Subcore: Time | Weakness: Electric | Resistance: Flame
HP: 10 | WE: 12 | ATK: 9 (5+2+2) (Boon) | DEF: 2 (4-2) (Bane) | SPD: 5

@GammaGhost : 1. You can only use a Charged Shot of the element you already have in your weapons. (In other words, you can use Impact Buster, but NOT Explode Buster. ...Or Nature Buster, for that matter, since Acorn can't even LEARN that move. Likewise, while Vat can learn the Nature Buster, he can't use it until he does learn it.

As for Super Throw... The opponent is thrown in the direction the robot was going previously. The limit is the nearest wall, or even their nearest ally, which will also damage said ally, damaging two foes in one move.
EDIT: Ok so since there isn't going to be any post after this one I guess I'll just do the update on this regular comment.

@RedBomber:

Unfortunately, Big Eye only had enough SPD to move up 2 spaces. But on the bright side, it’s still 2 spaces more than Prototype... Even though he can’t use it to travel even spaces.

Junior uses Met Shot on Elec Man!
1 Damage to Big Eye!
1 Damage to Prototype!
1 Damage dealt!

Shield Expert boosts the power of Prototype’s attack!
Prototype uses Shield Buster on Elec Man!
7 Damage dealt!
Elec Man is disabled!

Prototype earns 11 EXP
Laser Joe earns 6 EXP
Big Eye earns 6 EXP
Junior earns 6 EXP

LEVEL UP!

Prototype has reached Level 4!
HP: 34 > 36
WE: 8 > 9
ATK: 5 > 6
DEF: 6 > 7

Laser Joe has reached the stairs!

...Well, now. This is a first.

I can’t say I never thought to see the day, MKII... There have been many times your creator has cut it extremely close. It would only be a matter of time... Though, to do it with you BEFORE that Team Prototype... It’s almost surprising. Almost.

...I’ll start by making the choice of whether or not you’ll be corrupting that Sniper Joe left behind... I’m just going to say, no. And ONLY because I do not wish to bother coloring in the appropriate mugshot for you. Your work is your own, not mine. And since my work is to play Dungeon Master not just for you, but now a rejected Pokemon in a Time Man body? ...I’d rather not have more work on my plate, thank you.

That being said, I’ll go ahead and let Berry MKII pick up the Shadow Core that was dropped, then have Viking MKII move closer to the stairs.

Ah, and in the off chance any of you are wondering what it does, it’s simple: It changes the holder’s Subcore to Shadow. That’s it. As if it needed to be said.
As for your enemies...

...Well, scratch them being YOUR enemies. You are just about on your way out of this floor. I’ll let them target those Biostar guys, instead. Beta Shadow will just have to deal with them himself.
That being said, let’s leave these newcomers behind, shall we?

Right. I’ll just move up here. Techno, try a stronger move, won’t you?
...

Returning Techno charges up his buster.
And so, it repeats...

The Big Eye uses Basic Attack again...

...Dealing 1 Damage again. Like anything else was going to happen.
And now, the appearance of a Flea.

...This is starting to bore me.

Well, worry not. I’m sure things will be more interesting later on down the line.

It’d better be. I allowed for you to be here, and I can remove you, too.

...Those idiots at the Electrical Tower are going to get themselves killed... And then, with the way these floors work, they’ll not only have to climb the Tower again, but they’ll also have to fight a fully recovered Yellow Devil...

...As much as I hate to help, I hate even more to see such pitiful displays. Furthermore, this chapter of this “story” has no need to be any longer than it already is... So, with the control I have over this little “game”... I may just have to take some measures. ...I wonder if said measures will truly work in time, however...

Oh my good *REGGAE'D*, that's TWO casualities in one move!
NEW STRAT, EVERYONE. When that *REGGAE'D*-stained f*REGGAE'D*eye gets to max Weapon Energy, STAY THE ABSOLUTE HELL AWAY FROM IT.

Phantasm moves two spaces north and one left, charging his Laser Buster!
Shired moves two spaces north, and uses Knife Slasher on Yellow Devil! If he doesn't have enough Weapon Energy, he just uses a Weapon Pellet on himself.
Watcher uses Bit Cannon on Yellow Devil!

What now?

Okay uh Big Eye for sure is dead sooner or later so he'll just use Big Stomp on Le Métall Classique.

Junior-- okay finding ways for him to be useful is very difficult so I'll get back to him.

Laser Joe makes a break for the stairs (two spaces down, one space right).

Prototype just kinda chills there. He'd spam Shield Buster but since he has 3 WE that's not possible.

On second thought I give up Junior'll just stay there too.

Now if you'll excuse me I have a busy schedule that consists of sleeping, sleeping, more sleeping, and watching Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehold it.

Oh no. What in the H are you here for now?

As you may be aware of, yesterday was the very first day I have missed one of these "updates".

Yeah. Because you spent your time kidnapping Delta and using him for nefarious purposes. Why does this concern me?

Time constraints are only a problem because you, or rather, your laziness, make it a problem. I care not how.. but one way or another, you will find ways for updates to happen every day.Or leaving this tower alive will be the least of your "Team Prototype"'s problems.

Okay, okay, fine. Sheesh.

Returning Techno releases the Flame Buster...
...Only dealing 2 Damage. Your little “partner” is incredibly pathetic. Are you SURE you thought this through?

He hasn’t failed yet.

Neither has he succeeded. Don’t forget what I have told you... Now, handle that Big Eye yourself and keep it moving, or else I WILL remove you from this “game”. I do NOT like having my time be wasted with meaningless drivel.

(And yet, you’re participating in- hosting, even- this forum game instead of going for that “revenge” you were looking towards.)
What was that?
Oh, nothing.
That’s what I thought...

We already know what that Big Eye is going to do. I am NOT saying it a third time.
Next move. Make it worth my time.

@Inconspicuous User:

Teams Fractal Requiem and Blue Star leaves the dungeon!
@RedBomber:

Laser Joe has reached the stairs!

The Story Mission of this floor has been completed. Would you like to return to town?
As the two (or three, assuming Team Prototype returns home as well) returns from their mission, an Oil Man robot passes by, bumping into Phantasm!

oil-man WOAH! Yo, watch where you’re-! ...Hey, you seem familiar...

Suddenly, barking is heard!

oil-man Yikes! Looks like I gotta split!

Oil Man runs away. The barking that was pursuing him is revealed to be two dog robots: a purple one and a red one.

(Yeah, that’s what I thought, you spineless runt! Go back to the Oil Wells where you came from, and never come back!)

Suddenly, Elec Man appears!

elec-man I see you have all come back safely from the Electrical Tower... Good. That means I can finally go back home and see if I can finally take back control... Should be no problem, without that beast spreading some sort of virus around...
elec-man Either way, I’ll be glad to finally return and leave this place... I mean, look at it! Why do you even call it your home? It has no class whatsoever!

Treble snarls at Elec Man.

elec-man Sheesh, sorry! (Sorry that it’s true, anyways...)
elec-man ...Ah, yes. You might be wondering about that Oil Man robot... Well, apparently someone made him think it was a smart idea to come here and burn it all to the ground.
(Fortunately, some of us here are far too experienced for him to pose any threat... Let this be a lesson for any others out there who wants to attack the town directly.)
elec-man Yes, quite... Whatever he said. In any case, I suppose I should thank you for taking care of the problem for me... Here, I suppose this will be appropriate.

What is Elec Man handing out? Find out in the next post!

Teams Fractal Requiem, Blue Star, and Prototype receives an (AU) Volt Absorb!

elec-man ...Apparently, my place is too “annoying” and “frustrating” because of all the electrical traps, electrical enemies, and... Well, all the electricity in general. This Ability Upgrade should make this easier for you, should you return to my home again... Or any other place with a lot of electricity, really.

Speaking of all of that electricity...

Suddenly- ...Oh, boy, THESE guys are back...

...Isn’t the Yellow Devil weak to electricity? How did he manage to kick you out to begin with?
elec-man ...Hmph. I’ll have you know it wasn’t the Yellow Devil who kicked me out... Rather, it was the other robots he had under control with that strange virus... If it was him on his own, I would’ve removed him myself, no problem. ...But I was outnumbered, and overwhelmed with enemies that are at least resistant to electricity like I was.
I see... Which, I suppose it raises another question... Where did this virus come from to begin with?
elec-man ...Well, either way, it is no longer of my concern. I must be going on my way, now.

Elec Man heads his way home.
(...Come on, Treble. It’s time for our grand opening!)
(Tch, fine. I still can’t believe you managed to drag me into this...)
“Grand opening”? What do you mean by that?
Wait, you can understand them!?
You’ll be surprised at what they teach you at the Robot Military. They even started teaching “Bumo-ese” right before the appearance of a certain purple “you-know-who”.

The group follows Treble and Rush.

(Well, if you really want to become good members of the Academy- Or just strong in general, I really couldn’t care less- Then congrats, you have a free ticket to the Treble Bootcamp!)
(And if you’re more interested in style, then the Rush Outfitters has just what you need! ...Don’t ask what a dog like me has to do with style and fashion, though.)

NOTICE!

New facilities have been unlocked!

Treble’s Bootcamp
Want to earn some EXP? Then march on over to Treble’s Bootcamp! In Treble’s Bootcamp, you will be facing enemies that match the core color of the dungeon... And if a team member ALSO matches that core type, then they will earn double the EXP! To progress through Treble’s 5 floors, you must defeat opponents that will match your highest level! What’s more, there will even be copies of other players! The only way to move on to the next floor is to defeat ALL opponents on the floor! Don’t worry; There will not be any enemies spawning in to make it longer and harder... but in exchange, the use of items are prohibited! But the greatest part about this facility is, it’s 100% free!

Treble’s Bootcamp: Player vs. Player!
Another free service at Treble’s Bootcamp? PvP! Yep, just like with the battle between Phantasm’s and Ninja Man’s teams, you can challenge each other to a PvP battle! However, the conditions are as such: Firstly, the challenged player must NOT be busy with anything else! Secondly, they must also accept the challenge. And thirdly, the challenged player MUST be active! So, sadly, Phantasm can’t fulfill his promise of beating down Retro... Until he comes back, anyways. And in case you need a reminder of PvP rules, all members of a single team must be defeated to win, and no items are allowed!

...But what is Rush Outfitters? Well, the description didn't exactly fit in here, and there's even more past that! So, we'll just have to find out next post, huh? (This actually kinda makes it the biggest update post in this thread, huh?)

Rush’s Outfitters
Want to give any of your robots on your team a makeover? Come on down to Rush’s Outfitters today! For a small cost of 3 zenny, your team member- even including your leader or partner- can be repainted using one of our few premade alts, some of which were made specifically for this roleplay! (With some being placeholders.) However, with 5 zenny, as well as specific instructions, I can whip you up a custom alt! ...Though, uh, if you want to just provide and image instead, that’ll be just fine, too. Incredibly fine. (All custom alts WILL be added to the list of costumes in-shop... including those already being used by Teams Prototype and MKII. Yep. Even YOU can MKII-ify yourself, if you want to do that for... Whatever reason. Customs will NOT, however, appear as enemies in dungeons.)

...Speaking of style changing...

Icons for Mechas? In RMMD!?
Why, yes. Yes indeed. I have shown in Discord before that I have been making Icons/Mugshots/Whatever you prefer for the minor enemies of RMMD... And while this is most certainly not completed at all, all enemies that do have icons ready will have their current in-map sprites replaced with icons. And yes, that goes for Players as well. Even Prototype’s Big Eye! (And if anyone thinks they can make their own icons for mechas, feel free to try!)

New Dungeons available!
Alongside the Electrical Tower, you can now travel to Steel Mill and Clock Citadel!

Just one more thing...
To state this completely OOC, you may have noticed that Walter (RedBomber) has been using two accounts to control two separate teams... Likewise, I’ve been using my own alternate to have a team entirely my own, Instrumental Espionage unaccounted for. Well, the reason I had let Walt be is because I kinda wanted to test if someone could, if they wanted to, control two teams at a time. ...Well, I believe this test has become conclusive.

From here on out, ANYONE can make a second team... But you can ONLY have 2. No alt accounts required; You are free to make yourself a second team, if you so desire. But I will accept NO MORE THAN 2. In addition, to make a second team, your first team HAS to have been in and out at least ONE dungeon. Beyond that, go nuts, just not too nuts.

You use Bubble Spray...
...To deal 18 Damage. And now, the Big Eye is finally defeated.

That would be 10 EXP for you, and 5 Returning Techno. ...Although, who’s to say I should give you that experience for that pathetic display?

...What.

Well, YOU have been too slow, and Techno has been too weak. Meanwhile, that Big Eye is absolutely NOTHING. And yet, you STRUGGLED against it.

I don’t remember there being ANY kind of struggle.

Either way, it lasted longer than it should’ve, so I believe you don’t deserve this EXP.

If this was Team MKII, you’d be patting them on the back!

No I wouldn’t. Because they would’ve handled it better than you have. And besides, that is to suggest we are friends. Of which, no, we aren’t.

And if they didn’t?

...

...

...Fine. But only because I don’t want to hear any more of your complaining.

(And this is why villains don’t get along...)

In any case, that Big Eye apparently finds your efforts inspiring... It wants to join you. Take it?

Why, I think I will. And I shall give it the name, “Moon Jump”.

...First of all, why are you naming it. Second of all, why did you name it something so dumb. And third of all-

Thank you, master Missingno. I shall serve you until the day of my demise.

...What did you do with it and why does it look so horrendous.

Simple; I corrupted it. It is now my eternal servant... And it will do exactly as I tell it to. Even if I told it to die.

...Ok then. I guess we found something interesting about you being here, then.

...Still doesn’t answer my second question.

Well, I can’t help it if inverted colors aren’t for everyone.

Can you help it if it actually works for literally nobody?

Well, that’s your opinion. Techno, take us to the next floor, will you?
...

Returning Techno has reached the stairs, taking us to the next floor... Which is honestly surprising that this is the first time we’ll see anything past the first floor of this dungeon. And pathetic. Mostly pathetic.

@Inconspicuous User:
Alright, then let’s see how these lot will act...

...It appears only one of those Metalls were able to reach you to use Met Shot.

This deals only 1 Damage to Beetle MKII. And then it retreats into its shell like a coward. Pathetic.
Destroying them should be an easy matter, once they come out of hiding.

...Hm, strange. I can’t shake this strong feeling that you’re being gypped right now... Not by anyone here, clearly, but... Nevermind, it’s probably nothing.
...In any case... Those fools somehow made it out of the Electrical Tower alive... It seems they were able to defeat that Yellow Devil more easily than I had thought...

...Yes, quite easily... Too easily, in fact. I can’t help but feel like this may make them too overconfident for their own good... Especially the character of a certain purple ghost’s Reaper. ...Next time, I may just use my control over this little roleplay to make things harder for them... But, we’ll see what happens.

Yes yes, are you quite done with your little tangent?

I’ll be done whenever I d**n well please.

...Which happens to be now. But know that this means nothing.

Surely...

Just make your turn already.
